What a Creative Self-Care Day Looks Like
A self-care day does not need to be fancy. First, it can be as simple as clearing a small corner of your table and placing a candle, a favorite mug, and a few supplies. Next, you give yourself permission to slow down. You are not trying to finish a huge project. Instead, you are taking gentle steps and listening to how you feel. On low-energy days, small wins count. A single painted tag, a tiny clay flower, or a simple journal page is still progress.
Creative self-care is also about kindness. You may move slower. You may need more breaks. That is okay. Each brushstroke, each stamp, and each little detail becomes a reminder that your worth is not measured by speed or productivity. It is measured by presence, peace, and the love you pour into what you create.
Listening to Your Body While You Create
Living with fatigue, pain, or stress can make even simple tasks feel heavy. That is why it helps to choose projects that match your energy level. For example, you might prepare a small tray with pre-cut paper, a few stamps, and one or two paint colors. When you sit down, the decisions are already made. You can simply play.
Short sessions work well too. Set a gentle timer for ten or fifteen minutes. During that time, focus only on the feel of the brush, the sound of scissors, or the texture of clay. Afterward, you can stretch, sip water, and rest. Little pockets of mindful making throughout the day can add up to one peaceful, creative experience.
Simple Craft Projects for Low-Energy Days
Crafting is at the heart of everything we do here. On low-energy days, choose projects that are small, repeatable, and soothing. You might paint a single wooden heart, stamp a word of encouragement on a tag, or press clay into a favorite mold. Many of my projects use trusted tools like Dixie Belle Paint, Fusion Mineral Paint, and IOD molds and transfers. These supplies work beautifully in short sessions and hold up well when you return later to add more layers.
You can keep a small “self-care kit” ready for hard days. Include a few comforting colors, one or two brushes, a stamp with a hopeful word, and a tiny notebook for ideas. When your energy dips, you will not need to search for anything. You can simply open the kit and begin.
Helpful Resources for Mindful Crafting & Support
It also helps to gather resources that support both your creativity and your well-being. Sites like The Spruce Crafts offer simple project ideas and beginner-friendly tutorials. For emotional and medical support on the MS journey, organizations such as MyMSAA and Brain Center MS Resources share education, tools, and encouragement. If you want to bring more calm into your day, mindfulness sites like Mindful.org provide short practices that pair beautifully with gentle crafting.

A Message From Joane
Some days, your body whispers that it needs rest, yet your spirit still longs to create. On those days, remember that small, simple projects are enough. Your value is not in how much you finish but in how gently you care for yourself along the way. If all you do is paint one tag, press one clay flower, or choose colors for a future project, that is still an act of courage and love. Thank you for sharing this creative journey with me, and as always, keep on keeping on.
